Last Sunday was the last study day of my 6 month A Last Sunday was the last study day of my 6 month Ashtanga Intensive for Ashtanga Lovers. 

I could not have imagined a more dedicated and enthusiastic group to join me on this 6 months journey! 

It was amazing to witness how their understanding of yoga on and off the mat gained more depth and new perspectives.
They really made the pranayama and asana techniques, self-care rituals and philosophy theirs. That’s what matters most to me always: That people find their own way to integrate practice so it works best for them. 

So beautiful to see that through the Kriya, pranayama and asana work, participants found better access to their bandhas and breath, and how that very beautifully and powerfully transformed their pracitce ✨💛

The last study day also left me a bit emotional. Through the process of organizing, teaching and witnessing integration of techniques and philosophy in this intensive, I also learned a lot. And I just really enjoyed this amazing group!

It was the first time I taught an in-depth course/program over a longer period of time. What strikes me is how I found that I really enjoy sharing in this way - and that it is a powerful program. I loved the whole process of this intensive.

Thank you to all of you who joined this first 6 month Intensive with me.

It was a truely special experience and I look forward to witnessing your yoga path unfold further.

What a wonderful week it’s been already! We fin What a wonderful week it’s been already!

We finally welcomed @yvettevanderiet back in the shala 😍 Yvette moved back to the Netherlands after living 1.5 years in Australia. 

@sarita.st24 who moved to Germany a year ago and has practiced with us online since, just arrived in Groningen for a week of practice with us. Great to see you in person at the shala again Sarah!!

@lindehartmanyoga is here for her annual visit to her family and we’ve also had the pleasure to have her at practice with us again, among all of our amazing Bhumi Yogis!

It’s always really sweet to reconnect to people back in real life at the shala after they have been on long travel, moved or when they visit Groningen (or also lost practice for some time, which can happen...)🙏🏼🤍

What’s still happening at the shala this week?
✅ Tomorrow: Led Primary + Yoga Talk tomorrow
✅ Saturday: Led up to foundation poses leading into Mysore with Peter
✅ Sunday: The (already!!) last study day of our 6 months ashtanga Intensive for Ashtanga lovers; followed by Indian food! I’ll be a little sad when this intensive is done. I really enjoy sharing it and all the participants made it really special!

Readiness is a decision, not a feeling. You will Readiness is a decision, not a feeling.

You will never feel ready, you have to decide you are ready.

Otherwise, there will always be all sorts of reasons not to start something and procrastinate on what is actually dear to you. 

Of course, it's easier to procrastinate, to tell yourself that you will do "this" later. Procrastination also serves to protect us from having to face our imperfections and limits. Because when we actually do start we are faced with reality. Reality oftentimes appears far less perfect than our fantasy world. (I talked about this in my last Bhumi Talk🎤 on santosha 👉🏼check it out through the link in bio)

But who knows how long we have in this life? 

So why not start that what is dear to you. Take baby steps, keep an open mind and a beginners attitude. 

If we hold ourselves up to a certain plan, expectations or having to do it perfect, we checked out on reality and miss the fun of learning and exploring.

I often hear people say about themselves that they are not ready to practice Mysore Style yoga because:
❌”I’m stiff”  👉🏼Ok, practice can be adapted for all. And stiffness is a blessing for starting yoga✅. Do start!
❌”I don't know the sequence..” 👉🏼Why would you before you start? I didn't... We teach you, step-by-step, there is nothing you need to know before starting✅. Just try!
❌”I’m not advanced enough.” 👉🏼What does advanced yoga mean? For us it doesn’t mean being able to do do "crazy" poses but to be able to hold focus to breath, gaze and inner awareness - and this what we can teach you and you can learn step-by-step✅. Just start!
❌”I’m not strong.” 👉🏼Where’s the problem? Most of us aren’t when we start. We will scale your practice so that you get stronger✅ but won't feel depleted. Do try!
❌”I’m not a morning person.” 👉🏼Most of our practitioners weren’t before starting, but once they felt the benefits of a morning yoga practice, there is nothing that can beat that✅. Surprise yourself!

I listened. And today the gentle pranayama and Chandra Krama practice we did yesterday is available for rent in our library go to link in bio to access it).

About this specific pranayama and Chandra Krama session:
Chandra Krama, or the Moon Sequence, is an alternative therapeutic Vinyasa Krama sequence accessible to students of all traditions, also beginners.

This self-care practice begins with 20 minutes of breath work (pranayama). During this pranayama practice I guide you through:
✔️The stages of full breathing (abdominal breathing, intercostal breathing, full breathing) first in a lying down and then in a seated position.
✔️Single nostril breathing and
✔️Alternate nostril breathing

This pranayama does not only teach you how you bring more awareness to the rhythmicity of your breathing and how you can access your breath and "inner space" better, while it is very effective to bring about a calm yet gently focused mind.

From there, I guide you into the practice of Chandra Krama. This Chandra Krama session focuses on:
👌🏼Breath awareness and rhythmicity of breath
👌🏼Ease and
👌🏼Grounding 

Altogether, this session has a very gentle yet grounding energy. The practice finishes with passive, restorative quality, backbends and savasana; and a brief practice talk.

The Mysore Style Yoga method is a powerful tool. I The Mysore Style Yoga method is a powerful tool. It brings out more focus and calm in body and mind. It ignites your agency. It offers you literacy about your body and mind. It empowers you to lead your best life possible. 

I witness wonderful changes in our practitioners' perspective all the time.

There are, however, a lot of misconceptions about Mysore Style Yoga out there... - But don't let them hold you back from trying it out yourself!

Common misconceptions I hear sometimes are:

🤔”I feel I need to be ready to start." - You actually just need to show up, no previous experience is needed. No fancy clothing either. Just come as you are.

🤔The practice window states 7.00-9.30h, I have to practice for 2.5h?" No, by all means no, you have life to attend to, right? You probably will practice anywhere between 30-90min.

🤔”I am not flexible". Congratulations, in a way that's actually a good thing when learning yoga - I can explain more...!! And you can totally join us.

🤔”I am hyper-mobile." I feel you, we help you engage your muscles, and help you find space from stability instead of hanging in your joints.

🤔”Am I not too old to start?" No. Anyone who is still breathing can do this yoga. You are guided 1-on-1 and we adapt it to your needs. Depending on your needs I may even bring out a chair.

😢”I heard Ashtanga Yoga leads to injuries." Every tool can lead to injury if we use the tool in a wrong way. I teach dogma free and really work with you.

Yes! Bhumi Yoga is still here👋🏽🤩! We just Yes! Bhumi Yoga is still here👋🏽🤩! We just haven't posted much recently, yet the school is fully alive with our amazing community 😍

Hereby, just a little shoutout & update:
These weeks, I'm not tending to IG much. My energy goes right into teaching💪🏽, planning wonderfulness ahead🌟, caring for my little guy who has been sick a lot🤒 (poor little guy), tending to my own yoga and studies; while dealing with the ongoing renovation of our home. Spending less time on the gram has been refreshing and keeping me focused to the tasks at hand 🙏🏼

Home renovations are really something...
For the past 6-7 weeks we’ve been living in another house as our home undergoes a major transformation (yay - when it's done, some great improvements👌🏼👍🏼!). Originally, we were supposed to be here for one week in April and another two weeks in June. Well.... #thatdidnotplanout 😅

By the end of June we (hopefully 😁🙏🏼🙏🏼) move back🤞🏽, we just cannot wait!

Despite a lack of posts over here these days, we are totally there for you in person at our yoga school (and online through zoom). 

This is what we have ongoing and what is coming up at Bhumi Yoga:
✅Our Morning Mysore is commencing as usual
✅This Friday we have our Led Primary & Talk
✅Next week Friday is our monthly Chandra Krama Class
