We keep you well through the transition of the seasons and our doors stay open for our regular weekday Ashtanga Mysore Yoga Program.

🍂🍃🍁 The weather and seasons are changing, 🍂🍃🍁 The weather and seasons are changing, it's getting darker and colder , and soon probably wetter- at least here in Groningen.

Change is part of nature. As our bodies are part of nature, too, they also change with the seasons.

It can take time to settle into a new (darker / colder / more moist) quality.

Change can be met with resistance -especially when we transition to the more darker time of year. 

Yet, when we resist what is natural our body spends unnecessary energy demanding what is not there. This can leave us feeling more tired in body or mind, with lack of motivation and stiffness (physical and mental).

To help support your physical, mental and energetic body through the shift in seasons, try to stick to simple rituals to keep at your practice. The key is: simple rituals.

Honor and enjoy what you can do and accept what is present. 
You may need a bit more sleep as there is less light and / or possibly adjust your bed-time routine - adjust in little feasible steps so you can wake up feeling rejuvenated.

Perhaps you may even find pleasure and insight in what previously seemed a season of unease?

During the last couple of days, I also had to trick myself to get out my bed and onto my mat. It's so dark..... Once I started moving and breathing, my mind and body found more clarity and ease again.

I loved hearing this feedback from so many and decided to rename the course to 6 Months Ashtanga Yoga & Ayurveda Nourishment Program - it resonates a lot more with me and what we do in this course.

This holistic program is designed to resource your understanding of the practice and philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga. 

It altogether aims to provide you with the practical skills and theoretical know-how to build and keep momentum,  depth  and allow a deep nourishment for your practice. 

Open to students of all levels of practice, also beginners. You commit to maintaining a regular practice for the duration of the program.

SPECIAL PRACTICE ALERT: Traditionally, there is no SPECIAL PRACTICE ALERT: Traditionally, there is no Ashtanga Mysore Yoga practice on days of full and new moon. On these days, I'm teaching a version of the much loved Chandra Krama (Moon Sequence), pranayama and a little bit of chanting.

Chandra Krama, or the Moon Sequence, is an alternative therapeutic Vinyasa Krama sequence accessible to students of all traditions, whether young or old. It invites the release of unnecessary tension while fostering a deeper connection of body, soul and mind. The practice encourages the practitioner to accept and honour what is instead of wanting to be or go somewhere, fostering a deep sense of peace.

Chandra Krama emphasises the hips, groin, lower spine and abdominals, which will feel positively awake after moving through this sequence. The practice takes pressure off the neck, shoulders and wrists and is beneficial as a regular alternative practice to the heat building of traditional Ashtanga.

Practicing Chandra Krama helps you to let go, of holding on the plan, of attaching to what does not serve you and instead moves you towards taking joy in what is, on and off the mat. This awareness will also tickle into your Ashtanga Mysore practice and this practice is a beautiful alternative sequence for Mysore practitioners.

Chandra Krama was developed by Matthew Sweeney. I'm one of the few people in Europe authorised directly by Matthew Sweeney to teach this rejuvenating sequence.

Happy to witness our community practicing together Happy to witness our community practicing together.
People from different walks of life next to each other, starting their day bringing awareness to their internal landscapes. 

The decision to bring focus to the level of the body is important and brings great benefits. It allows for introspection, to understand the language and the sensations present within  the body, your home. This also enables understanding cause and effect of our actions which allows for self-agency, and thereby taking responsibility for your life and how you want to live.

This is utterly powerful in a world where endless outer distractions come at our senses all the time and our attention is hijacked almost non-stop; we get bombarded with messages of how to fix ourselves and what to buy to feel better…. 

Engaging in a practice that brings your focus to your breath, and thereby to the level of your body is really valuable. It reconnects you to what truly matters for you. It anchors / steadies you within yourself. 

You can always start.

📽️ I took a little snippet of our first surya namaskara a this morning.

On Fridays we start with a led part (surya namaskara a & b followed by foundational poses) from 7-7.30am; followed by Mysore Style Yoga from 7.30am onwards. Thus, you can either start at 7.00h, or join in after 7.30am. 

As a complete beginner the led part is not recommended (it’s for practitioners who already are familiar with this first part of practice).As a true beginner first join the Mysore Style practice to properly learn the basics step by step with my 1-on-1 guidance - a wonderful way to learn yoga.

📣Ashtanga Yoga & Ayurveda Retreats coming up in 📣Ashtanga Yoga & Ayurveda Retreats coming up in 2024

🌱March 14-17 and
🌱September 26-29. 

We will go to the same serene location, a nature reserve in Twente, NL as for the last retreat (see reel).

For some a retreat is a deep dive into self-study. For others, it was a time to gently unfold, rest and soak up the magic of time, nature, the balanced meals and practices we engage in.

I just really love holding space for people to help nourish themselves exactly what they need in this way. 

Participants of my last Ashtanga Yoga & Ayurveda retreat felt well taken care of, the retreat inspired new insights and ingnited change in perspective and how participants were relating to and “doing” “life”.

They also let me know that:

🌱They felt equipped to move forward, able to integrate their experience in an agreeable way after the retreat in real life, while returning home to families, work and life energized and ready for what’s ahead.

🌱The retreat program allowed for a good balance between input and down time.

🌱They really enjoyed the input (practices, lectures, workshops, discussions)and that it added a lot of depth and new ways of looking at themselves and life. They found the input inspiring and insightful while also digestible and transferable to daily life.

🌱Meals were be well-balanced, nourishing according to the principles of Ayurveda, and lovingly prepared by dear @greenspoonyoga - who will also hold space in the kitchen and cook for us during these upcoming retreats

🌱The morning silence to facilitate calm was perceived as a blessing.

🌱They altogether enjoyed a holistic experience.

There are still a few spaces for my March 2024 retreat.
